That's a great idea. Perhaps mixing some of the different style textures. Say, for instance, a "lens blur" texture with a "grunge" texture would yield some cool results. Especially if you play with the blending modes... particularly CS4 has some cool new blending modes to play around with.

Another neat trick is to duplicate the same layer and set the top to overlay, so it creates contrast that is a bit different than curves.

Really liked this article/tutorial! Especially the words of wisdom at the end in regards to not using it if it doesn't need it.

Good point! I think it is important to have different styles of textures to allow for flexibility. Having 100 of the same kind of texture probably wouldn't make sense, but if you have a few different materials available, it definitely helps. But I agree, there isn't any sense in having your hard drive half full of huge images that you use maybe once a year.

Good article. It's good for someone to highlight the power of using black and white textures with the overlay blending mode. Basically the principle of the concept is dodging and burning. In the overlay blend mode blacks burn and whites dodge.

Another good concept is creating a texture library of repeating black and white texture, then combining and blending textures for new texture combinations...

Tom,
Thanks for the interest! The texture used is from Andrew Kramer and Video Copilot, and is a paid-for resource (can't offer it for this reason). You can jump over to videocopilot.net to see all of the awesome products they have to offer over there.

Problem with too many textures is that you will always find yourself using only 2-3 different textures and the rest of them are just garbage filling up your folder.
Stick to a few nice and very different textures - just my 2 cents.
